The theme of the art program for this pharmaceutical company’s Library and Conference Center is science. Each work of art is meant to suggest the building blocks of life (cells, genes, etc.) or the complexity of chemicals used in pharmaceuticals.
 

The abstract shapes in the painting by Leif Olson reminded the scientists of genetic material. The painting’s bright colors add interest, especially when seen from this distant entrance.

This very large photographic triptych by Arnold Kolb is a close-up image of the structure of a chemical used in the pharmaceutical industry. It was made using an electron microscope.

The plan and details of the cafeteria are based upon a square grid. This design, co-mingled with the theme of food, are playfully abstracted in Harry Bartlett’s Blackberries/ Raspberries series of large color photographs.
