Mona Berman
Art dealer, curator, educator, writer.
Mona Berman, owner and Director of Mona Berman Fine Arts, received her BFA cum laude from the University of Illinois and her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
She has provided curatorial services and curated exhibitions for Yale University Art Gallery, Wesleyan University's Mansfield Freeman Center for East Asian Arts, the Connecticut Commission on the
Arts, and for corporations including The Travelers and General
Electric.
As Director of Mona Berman Fine Arts, her clients include national and international Fortune 500 corporations, major national museums, architects, designers and private collectors.
While Director of Mona Berman Gallery from 1979- 86, Ms. Berman curated over 100 exhibitions, many of which were widely acclaimed by reviewers of major publications, including
Art in America and The New York Times. Connecticut Magazine named the gallery
'Best of Connecticut'.
Ms. Berman has written articles for Art New England and Ocular
and has written catalogs for exhibitions and corporate collections. She is
currently at work on a textbook Textiles Matter, A Detailed Guide
to Textiles for Interior Designers and Architects.
She has lectured and taught courses and workshops for artists, lawyers and designers covering topics from
How to Buy Art to Business Management for the Artist and The Arts and the
Law.
Ms. Berman helped draft Connecticut’s first Arts Advocacy Legislation, has been a juror for the State’s Per Cent for Arts Program and has served on panels to assist third world artists in making their designs economically viable.
She is a member of New England Appraisers Association, American Council for Southern Asian Art, Textile Society of America and College Art Association.
Ms. Berman’s passions are textiles and jewelry, both of which she collects from around the world.
